Snake Drake Fly Tying Recipe

Hook: Tiemco 100 or Dai-Riki 310
Thread: 3/0 Tan
Tail: Moose body
Wings: Calftail
Rib: 3/0 Pale yellow thread
Body: Hare's mask dubbing
Hackle: Dun neck hackle (two feathers)
Tying Tips
- Tie in a nice full tail and wings
- Double up the thread rib and give it a twist before wrapping forward
- Body should also be robust
- Use two turns of hackle behind the wings and three or four in front of
the wings
Tips for Fishing the Snake Drake
- This pattern was designed to imitate the wide variety of green to brown
(and everything in between) drake mayflies so common in western fly fishing.
Many of these mayflies are not technically classified as drakes, but the
trout don't know that (and I ain't gonna tell 'em)
- Fish dead drifted
